To make your holiday activity planning a little easier, we thought we’d put together a list of the top 5 best golf courses in North Wales so that you can turn up on your next vacation with a clear idea of where you are going to be heading.
1. Royal St David’s Golf Club
Located in Harlech and sitting in the shadow of the stunning Harlech Castle, Royal St David’s Golf Club is generally considered to be home to one of the very best golf courses in the country.
With a par of 69, it is a tough but fair course which requires accurate play and takes significant practice to truly master. Even if you do find your first few attempts to be a bit of a struggle, you can still enjoy the magnificent views overlooking Snowdonia and, of course, Harlech Castle.
2. Clwb Golff Pwllheli
The closest golf course to Gimblet Rock Holiday Park is Pwllheli Golf Club which is situated just 2 miles from our resort. This is truly a hidden gem of the region with a mix of parkland and links style holes. Combined with its undulating fairways and tricky greens, Pwllheli Golf Club poses an enjoyable challenge for golfers of all abilities.
Another highlight of the course are the magnificent vistas that it offers with its coastal location providing beautiful sea views which never seem to get old. It’s close proximity to Gimblet Rock means that this should be a course you become very familiar with on your next golf holiday in North Wales.
3. Conwy Golf Club
Situated just outside of the medieval market town of Conwy and close to Conwy Marina, Conwy Golf Club is renowned for its well kept greens and exceptional views of the nearby Conwy mountains. You’ll also be able to breathe in the refreshing sea air on account of the course’s coastal location.
In addition to being well kept, Conwy Golf Course also offers a significant challenge for golfers with a par of 72. The many virtues of the course led to it hosting the Curtis Cup in 2021. This naturally adds a bit of a premium, with rather expensive green fees. Nevertheless, it is still well worth a visit if you are looking to treat yourself to something special on your next trip to North Wales.
4. Silver Birch Golf Club
With Conwy Golf Club being located just over an hour's drive away from Gimblet Rock, you may as well pay a visit to another famous golf club within its vicinity. Silver Birch Golf Club in Abergele is located on the doorstep of our sister holiday park Tan Rallt Holiday Park. It is therefore little wonder that so many golf enthusiasts choose to buy an Abergele holiday home here so that they can make the most of the ideal location.
One of the perks of Silver Birch Golf Club are its low cost green fees which have led to it becoming one of the most popular pay and play courses in the region. It also isn’t without its challenges with a difficult “Grand Canyon” hole which involves a stream and a gorge.
However, Silver Birch Golf Club has recently become slightly more famous for being the home of footgolf in North Wales. If you are holidaying as a family, this is a great way to introduce your offspring to the joys of the game.
5. Nefyn & District Golf Club
Located slightly closer to Gimblet Rock Holiday Park is Nefyn & District Golf Club which is just over 7 miles away from our resort. The club is perhaps most famous for its dramatic coastal location with holes set along rugged cliff tops overlooking the Irish Sea.
The course is comparable to Pebble Beach in the US, ensuring a thrilling experience for golfers with a number of challenging shots in addition to its memorable scenery.
