Best Restaurants in North Wales
If you are looking to book a foodie holiday, then there is nowhere better than North Wales. Here you will find a plethora of award winning eateries, including a Michelin star restaurant and establishments run by head chefs who have cut their teeth working with world renowned names such as Heston Blumenthal and Marco Pierre White.
We thought we’d take on the challenge of listing what we consider to be the best restaurants in North Wales so that you can arrive on your next holiday at Gimblet Rock with a clear idea of the establishments that you will be looking to frequent. Let’s kick off with the only Michelin star restaurant in North Wales…
1. Sosban & The Old Butchers (Menai Bridge)
Located in Menai Bridge, Sosban & The Old Butcher is all about exclusivity with a restaurant which features just three dining tables situated in a building which, as the name suggests, was historically a butchers shop.
With an open kitchen, you can see head chef Stephen Stevens beavering away all by himself as he creates a selection of dishes using only the very best local produce. The menu here changes daily upon the whims of the chef as he prepares a truly unique culinary journey unlike anything you will find elsewhere.
In total the whole experience consists of nine different courses, all of which blend an unusual mix of ingredients with a policy of no waste. With the cost per person being £175, you have to be a real foodie to justify making a booking. However, it is well worth it if you are keen to try the only Michelin star restaurant in North Wales.
2. Bodysgallen Hall
Another restaurant in North Wales which has previously held a Michelin star and still retains 3 AA Rosettes is Bodysgallen Hall near Llandudno. Situated in a Grade I listed 17th century country house and overlooking 200 acres of parkland, Bodysgallen Hall offers a very traditional environment in which to enjoy a sophisticated dining experience.
The head chef Abdalla Ahmed El Shershaby aims to use as many ingredients as possible from the on-site estate with a policy of “garden to fork”. While their menu options are always fresh and spectacular, it is their Sunday lunch which is generally considered to be the real highlight having been named one of the best in the UK by The Observer.
Smart dress is expected in keeping with the sophisticated surroundings, with all diners being asked to make the catering team aware of any specific food allergies beforehand so that the chef can take appropriate precautions.
3. Porth Tocyn Restaurant (Abersoch)
Gimblet Rock Holiday Park is the perfect place to stay if you are looking to book a holiday in Abersoch, with our resort being located just a short drive away from this famous seaside resort. Just a 7 minute walk up the road from Abersoch beach you will find the multi award winning Porth Tocyn Restaurant.
With 2 AA rosettes to its name and having featured in the Good Food Guide every single year since 1957, Porth Tocyn is as close as you can get to guaranteed culinary satisfaction having been under the stewardship of the same family throughout this period.
Separate lunch and evening menus are available, with options changing depending on the season. You can choose to dine in the rather traditional looking restaurant or outside on the terrace section which is idyllic during the summer period.
4. Tremfan Hall Restaurant (Pwllheli)
Located just 5 miles up the road from Gimblet Rock Holiday Park is the fantastic Tremfan Hall Restaurant. Led by head chef Nigel Skinner, the team aims to create a modern British menu which takes influences from French cuisine.
One thing that Skinner promises is that no diners will go home hungry, with a varied menu of starters, mains and desserts using fresh local ingredients. This includes vegetarian options on both the lunch and dinner time menus.
During the summer months, you may wish to dine alfresco on the patio section which affords exceptional views of Cardigan Bay. This also makes for an idyllic beer garden, with diners able to choose from a wide selection of beverages to complement their meals.
5. Bryn Williams at Porth Eirias (Colwyn Bay)
Hailing from nearby Denbigh, head chef and proprietor Bryn Williams has worked in some of the highest regarded restaurants in the UK. He has worked under famous chefs such as Marko Pierre White and Michel Roux but has now returned to his homeland to bring his learnings to the people of North Wales.
Sitting on the seafront in Porth Eirias, Colwyn Bay, Diners are treated to sensational sea views and a menu made up of as many fresh Welsh ingredients as possible. The proximity to the sea naturally means that there are plenty of fish options on the menu, including his sensational fish fingers, fries, crushed pea & tartare sauce dish and his homely fish pie which is big enough for two.
This isn’t the kind of restaurant where you will be rueing the small portions, instead meals are filling and homely in a relaxed yet modern environment on the Colwyn Bay seafront.
If you are looking for affordable and tasty food right on your holiday home doorstep, then why not pay a visit to our very own on-site bar and restaurant. You can choose from a wide selection of family favourites at a reasonable price.
