The Best Pwllheli Watersports
The North Wales region is one of the watersport capitals of the UK, with the clean waters and soft sandy beaches making the region a mecca for those who enjoy adrenaline fuelled adventures such as surfing, coasteering, jet skiing and sailing.
Gimblet Rock Holiday Park is located right in the middle of many of the top watersport attractions in the area. So if you are keen to partake in such activities on your next trip to our resort, we thought it might be helpful if we provided you with details on the kind of Pwllheli watersport adventures you can look forward to whilst staying with us.
Fun & Games at Glasfryn Parc
Situated roughly 6 miles away from our holiday park is the fantastic Glasfryn Parc. This is the perfect family attraction as it offers a wealth of fun activities with something for all ages.
Despite having originally been primarily known for its outdoor go-karting circuit, the attraction has expanded over recent years and now includes its very own water park which features a water based obstacle course where participants are tasked with navigating their way across the various challenges without finding themselves in the lake.
Alternative Pwllheli watersport activities available at the venue include kayaking, paddleboarding and the slightly more challenging wakeboarding. This is the perfect venue at which to learn how to undertake these activities for the first time thanks to the excellent tuition which is provided by the on-site team.
All of these activities are perfect for children aged 8 and above, ensuring that all members of the family will be accommodated at this thrilling all weather attraction.
Surfing & Kayaking from Porth Neigwl
Located roughly 10 miles away from Gimblet Rock Holiday Park is Porth Neigwl which roughly translates into “Hell’s Mouth”. However, this frightful name is somewhat misleading with the beach actually being one of the hidden gems of the Pwllheli region.
This rural 4 mile long beach is popular with surfers and kayakers who are keen to take to the open seas as opposed to the tamer conditions on offer at venues such as Glasfryn Parc. Porth Neigwl is ideal for first time surfers on account of the cliffs on either side of the bay which help to protect it from the harshest weather conditions which can result in choppy waters.
Spring tends to be the time of year which offers the best surfing conditions, producing clean and surfable waves. However, the waves available may be considered too tame for more experienced thrill seekers.
Powerboating from Pwllheli Marina
Powerboating is another very popular Pwllheli watersport activity, with many of the participants setting off from the Pwllheli marina which is of course located just a short walk away from Gimblet Rock Holiday Park.
If you are keen to partake in such activities yourself and seeking tuition that will help you master the art there is nowhere better than the Offshore Sea School at the Pwllheli marina. There are three main courses available to choose from here including the RYA Powerboat courses which provide newbies with practical water based training on water safety, basic boat handling, mooring guidance and basic navigation tuition.
Alternatively, if you already own a powerboat you can take advantage of the more personalised training that is available where the knowledgeable on-site team will provide you with tips and guidance on how to master the seas in their own vessel.
Pwllheli Sailing Club
Also located at Pwllheli Marina is the Pwllheli Sailing Club HQ which is situated within the Welsh National Sailing Academy and Event Centre. Membership of the club is a must for anyone who is keen to regularly sail from the marina and plans to purchase their own craft.
The club can help with launching ships in addition to storing them at the end of another exciting day of exploring the surrounding Pwllheli coastline. Also included as part of the membership are invitations to a series of social events throughout the year which enable members to make new friends amongst a like minded community of sailing enthusiasts. As you grow in confidence you can even get involved in their competitive sailing races which are held throughout the year from the Marina.
