To help make planning your next holiday at Gimblet Rock a little easier, we’ve put together a list of the best places to visit near Pwllheli so that you can arrive on-site with a firm idea of how you will be filling your days at our resort.
1. Pwllheli's Beaches
Pwllheli is fortunate in that it has two spectacular beaches to offer tourists. This includes south beach which runs from Gimblet Rock all the way to Llanbedrog. With its beautiful promenade, this shingle beach is a popular walking route and leads straight into the town centre with its many facilities. These include a skate park, eclectic selection of shops and top quality cafes.
You can even enjoy this walk with your pooch, with only a small section of the beach not being dog friendly throughout the year. This obstacle can be averted by merely taking to the promenade, ensuring that your walk will be uninterrupted.
Glan y Don beach meanwhile is one of Pwllheli’s hidden gems. With its soft golden sands, blue flag rated water quality and shallow waters; it is the perfect location for a traditional British day out at the seaside.
2. Glasfryn Park
Glasfryn Parc has every reason to label itself North Wales premier activity centre as it genuinely does have something for all members of the family. Historically it has been its outdoor go-karting circuit which has proven to be the biggest draw, but this is now starting to be eclipsed by its water park where holidaymakers can try their hand at activities such as kayaking and wakeboarding alongside taking on a challenging inflatable obstacle course.
Family members who are in the mood for something a little less energy consuming can instead opt to partake in a spot of coarse fishing in the freshwater lake which offers stunning views of Cardigan Bay.
You’ll find an activity at Glasfryn Parc to suit all seasons and weather conditions, with the on-site complex being home to a ten-pin bowling alley and soft play area which is ideal for the smaller members of the family. With so much to do at Glasfryn Parc, you’ll easily be able to fill up multiple days out during your holiday at this nearby attraction.
3. Pwllheli Golf Club
If you are a golf enthusiast, you will be delighted to learn that Gimblet Rock Holiday Park is located just 2 miles away from one of the best golf courses in North Wales in the form of
Pwllheli Golf Club which translates to Pwllheli Golf Club.
The course was initially opened in a 9 hole configuration designed by golf course architect Tom Morris in 1900. This was upgraded to an 18 hole configuration in 1909 with the extended section designed by the legendary 5 times British Open Champion James Braid. The result is a challenging links golf course which offers a challenge to golfers of all abilities.
Games at Pwllheli Golf Club are made all the more enjoyable by the stunning coastal views which are afforded overlooking Cardigan Bay. With visitor green fees starting from just £20, Pwllheli Golf Club is a must visit for all fans of the sport.
4. Plas Glyn y Weddw Gallery
Irrespective of your appreciation for the arts, we’d strongly recommend paying a visit to Plas Glyn y Weddw gallery which is the oldest art gallery in North Wales.
The building in which the gallery is set is just as impressive as the works that are on display, with this gothic style grade II listed manor house having been constructed in 1857 by Elizabeth Jones Parry, the widow of Sir Love Jones Parry who was a decorated British Army officer.
Exhibits are refreshed every 6-8 weeks, ensuring that no two visits to Plas Glyn y Weddw Gallery are ever the same. Whilst visiting we would strongly recommend that you frequent the award winning on-site café which won the prestigious 'Little Gem' award at the Royal Fine Arts Commission Trusts Building Beauty Awards thanks to its artist led architectural design which took influence from the marine life present nearby in addition to the scientific fascination which gripped society at the time at which the gallery was constructed.
5. Plas in Rhiw
Another historic manor house which makes it onto our list of the best places to visit near Pwllheli is Plas yn Rhiw. This 17th century manor house is now under the ownership of the National Trust with the estate including an ornamental garden which is the only organic garden within the groups collection of properties in Wales.
Outstanding coastal views can be enjoyed from these gardens which seem to offer something different every time you visit thanks to the wide selection of seasonal plant life. Inside the building meanwhile, you’ll see a number of exhibits which aim to showcase how previous tenants of the property made Plas yn Rhiw their home.
